In the summer of 2012 I took a backpacking trip across Central America in pursuit of adventure, escape, and personal enrichment. We made art throughout our trip and freely gave it to the wonderful strangers who took us in. Our experiences in those six weeks across six countries have left me with a burning desire to share and create. Our time away also gave me a deeper understanding of my life here in Oakland. Through the stories of the people, the whispers of magical landscapes, and the cries of the animals, I felt pieces of myself reverberating through time and space. I also gained a deeper understanding of the people versus the state, as many of these countries have long histories of repression and revolt. Now, back in Oakland, I understand that the only war worth fighting is for the freedom of information, and my weapon of choice is art.
